Ludlow Falls Interpretive Trail

This one-mile trail was built in the summer and fall of 2001 by the developer of much of Port Ludlow, Olympic Resource Management (ORM), in memory of a valued employee, David Cunningham, who had been instrumental in preserving natural places in Port Ludlow. The PLVC Trails Committee has added to the trail by placing nine interpretive signs describing the local vegetation, fish, geology, and history.

The trailhead is in the Village Center parking lot near the Trail Information Kiosk, where ample parking, is available. Please do not park in the PLA lot to the east of the RV park or in the RV park itself.

Start the walk by crossing, Breaker Lane and entering, the RV Park. Follow the RV road, staying on the left-hand side. You will pass one "Trail" sign pointing straight ahead, then a second pointing to a sharp left turn. Turn left here. The trail is easily defined and leads past an open meadow and down a short hill, then takes another left turn and enters the woods. Look for the interpretive signs as you walk.

After a short section of "natural" trail, you will turn right onto an asphalt utility road which leads downhill to a pump station on Ludlow Creek. Past the pump station are two stairways which take you up the hill again. At the top of the second stairway is the Cunningham memorial area with its large basalt boulder and memorial plaque. A beautiful overlook to Ludlow Falls is in this area. Resting, benches and additional informative signs about Ludlow Creek are also found here. It is a lovely place to linger and reflect.

Leaving the memorial area, turn left and continue on the trail up the hill, then down to a bridge spanning an unnamed seasonal stream which, during, rainy periods, flows into Ludlow Creek. After crossing the bridge, turn left again and return to the Village Center.
